In this mode, the goal isn’t to climb global ranks: the rules are designed to match you against opponents of similar rank and to test your performance in battles with a defined format.

The Season 41 (final) is available to all players and remains active until the end of the service. This means there is no specific “date-based end” published in the news; instead, the season ends when the service ends.

Pokémon allowed in the Pokédex (Paldea, Teal Mask, and Blueberry)

To build your team, you’re told you can use Pokémon belonging to these base Pokédexes:

Restrictions: special Pokémon, level, and items

This season includes several rules that directly affect how you prepare your team.

Limit on “special” Pokémon

You can’t bring more than two special Pokémon. The list of special Pokémon includes, among others:

Automatic level

Pokémon will automatically be set to Level 50 for battles.

Held items: no duplicates

Pokémon can’t have the same item as another Pokémon in the team you bring into battle.

  • Mewtwo, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza
  • Cal and rex with their riders (includes Calyrex (Glacial Rider) and Calyrex (Spectral Rider))
  • Koraidon, Miraidon, Terapagos

Battle time and session rules

The format is also limited by timers. These limits are specified:

  • Battle time: 20 minutes
  • Total player time: 7 minutes
  • Time per turn: 45 seconds
  • Time for team preview: 90 seconds

Rewards and ranking: how your performance is measured

In this final season there will be no final ranking and no rewards tied to placement. Instead, matches are used to pit you against opponents of similar rank, so your performance is measured within the matchmaking of the system.

To access Ranked Battles, you need:

  • A subscription to Nintendo Switch Online

Before jumping in, check three things to avoid issues:

If you follow these restrictions (special Pokémon, items, and automatic level), you’ll be ready to compete in Season 41 (final) with the full timed format and no final ranking.

  • That your selections fit the allowed Pokédexes (Paldea/Teal Mask/Blueberry) or are within other allowed Pokémon.
  • That your team doesn’t exceed 2 special Pokémon.
  • That no Pokémon on your team has a duplicate held item, and remember everything is set to Level 50.
