Pokémon HOME 4.0.0: connection with Legends Z-A and Pokémon Champions, and why it matters
Pokémon HOME 4.0.0 is now available: support for Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Champions, mysterious Alpha gifts, and official artwork for Magearna.
Quick summary
The Pokémon HOME 4.0.0 update adds support for Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the new battles platform Pokémon Champions. It includes mysterious Alpha-type gifts and transfer changes you should know about before moving your Pokémon.
What matters
Pokémon HOME has received version 4.0.0, bringing two key updates: compatibility with Pokémon Legends: Z-A and integration with Pokémon Champions. In addition, the update includes mysterious gifts and special content related to the Kalos region.
Below you’ll find a clear guide to what changes, how to make the most of it, and what consequences come with sending Pokémon between games.
Compatibility with Pokémon Champions and its new menu
After updating, a new element will appear in the app: the Pokémon Champions menu. This section connects HOME with the battles platform, which launches on April 8 on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
Import Pokémon from Pokémon Legends: Z-A (and watch compatibility)

The update also adds Pokémon Legends: Z-A to the list of games from which you can import Pokémon into Pokémon HOME.
But there’s an important condition: when you send Pokémon to Pokémon Legends: Z-A, those Pokémon become incompatible with earlier games, and you can’t send them back to a previous game.
To understand it with a directly confirmed example: if you place a Pokémon originally from Pokémon Shield into HOME and then send it to Legends: Z-A, it will no longer be able to return to Shield.
Mysterious gifts in HOME: Alpha Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile
In addition to the integration, a Mystery Gift event arrives that lets you obtain three Alpha Pokémon from Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

How to claim the gift
1. Move a Pokémon from Pokémon Legends: Z-A to Pokémon HOME. 2. Open the mobile version of HOME to receive the gifts.
Available rewards (level 5 and abilities)
| Mysterious gift | Level | Type | Known moves | Confirmed details |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alpha Chikorita | 5 | Alpha | Tackle, Dazzling Gleam, Tail Whip | The nature is random |
| Alpha Tepig | 5 | Alpha | Tackle, Wild Charge, Tail Whip | The nature is random |
| Alpha Totodile | 5 | Alpha | Tackle, Dragon Claw, Leer | The nature is random |
Original Color Magearna receives official artwork
The update also brings visual news for Original Color Magearna and its Mega Evolution, which now have official artwork.
This Magearna (Original Color) can also be transferred and mega-evolved in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, taking advantage of HOME’s new integration.
Update availability and what to check in your app
Version 4.0.0 is ready to download on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and mobile platforms. After installing it, check two things in HOME:
Finally, before moving any creature, keep in mind the incompatibility rule when sending it to Legends: Z-A, especially if you were planning to keep compatibility options with earlier titles.
- that the Pokémon Champions menu appears,
- and that Pokémon Legends: Z-A is listed as the game from which you can import Pokémon.
