Pokémon GO is celebrating its 10th anniversary with free Timed Research for Trainers worldwide. Its main reward is a Mewtwo with maximum stats and a special background, ahead of the Mega Finale that closes Pokémon GO Fest 2026. The promotion combines a deadline-limited anniversary gift and a global weekend focused on Mega Evolution; finish the research and claim every reward before it expires.
How to get the max-stat Mewtwo
The Timed Research runs from Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 1:00 a.m. CEST until Sunday, September 6, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. local time. The final encounter awards a max-stat Mewtwo with a special background, with Mega Mewtwo Y's third Mega Level already unlocked.
Players who caught Mewtwo at the in-person Times Square event on July 9 receive a specimen with different stats and rewards, without a repeated max-stat guarantee.
Mega Finale dates and Mega Mewtwo's return
The Mega Finale takes place on September 5 and 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time. Habitats and Mega Raid Bosses rotate, with four habitats per day appearing twice. Saturday features Mega Mewtwo X in Super Mega Raids and Sunday Mega Mewtwo Y; caught Mewtwo may have a themed special background.

Chespin, Fennekin or Froakie: a Mega Energy choice
A branching Timed Research lets you choose Chespin, Fennekin or Froakie and awards the GO Pass: Mega Finale, whose route and rewards depend on the chosen Kalos partner.

The free route gives enough Mega Energy for one Mega Evolution. Deluxe adds more Mega Energy and rewards, but the initial choice defines the companion in both.
What to prepare for the weekend
There is no Remote Raid limit on September 5–6, and all Mega-Evolved Pokémon receive an extra CP boost. Claim the anniversary Mewtwo first, then reserve each day for the desired form and habitats.
